Kalana Cooper

Kalana Cooper lives in Detroit, Michigan and has worked as a Customer Support Assistant for the Detroit Public Library since 2005. She holds a BA in African Studies from Wayne State University, where she was a four-year Presidential Scholar.

Kalana is anxious to pave the way for other underserved groups looking to make a change economically, socially, and educationally. As an African American woman, she has experienced poverty, hardship, and has been subjected to social and economic strain. She feels it is her duty to continue servicing the public even more so now in comparison to the past. Because of IDOL, she will be able to take what she learns and bring books, knowledge, technology and information back to the neighborhoods and encourage others to take advantage of free information as it is the gateway to empowerment and she is living proof of it.
